Tips to perfect your recitation
As regards to perfecting your recitation, here is a suggested method. Listen to a 'teacher' recitation such as Husary, Huthaify, Minshawy, Basfar. You can access verse by verse recitations here:http://quran.ksu.edu.sa (they specifically have a 'Teacher' recitation by Husary.)
Listen to ONE verse at a time. As you listen, follow along in your mushaf. Mark the rules such as ghunnahs, madd, heavy letters in your mushaf with a pencil. (As you get better you can erase this later). Repeat the verse.
Listen and repeat the verse 10 times, (listen once, repeat once - ten times. Don't listen 10 times and repeat 10 times all in one go). Each time you listen, train your ears to 'hear' each rule - the lengths of the mudood, the makhaarij and sifaat of letters, the duration of the ghunnahs, etc.
If you have trouble with a word, then just say that word clearly until you get it right. Recite very slowly, focusing on the rules. Each time you recite, try and apply the rules until you think you are reciting 'just like' the recitor. Now proceed to the next verse.
Even if you practice one or two verses a day it is ok. It is QUALITY over quantity. This is hard work but in sha Allah you will see the results. Try and do this daily, and try and keep a fixed time or quantity, for example, one hour, or half a page.
